General Specifications of Navigation Engineering (Deck) Courses

Introduction:

In line with implementing the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the principle of cultural and scientific independence and with regard to the program of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding cultural and economic independence and self-sufficiency in maritime training, quantitative and qualitative development of efficient forces as well as to accommodate this program with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in 1996, educational plans for maritime courses have been compiled with the following specifications.

Definition:

This is a set of higher education courses that are designed for undergraduate programs in the field of Maritime Engineering and master's programs with two concentrations of Maritime Transportation and Ports and Shipping.

A) Undergraduate Program in Maritime Engineering

Target:

The purpose of this program is to prepare students in the field of ship navigation scientifically and professionally to steer and operate merchant ships with a gross capacity of 500 or more - unlimited voyages in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and subsequent amendments.

Program Length:

The average length of a bachelor's degree in marine engineering, including an internship, is 4.5 years, and each semester has 16 educational weeks and each theoretical course has 16 hours, practical 32 hours and 48 hours internship.

Number of Units:

The total number of snits in the undergraduate course of Navigation Engineering (Deck) is 140 as follows:

1. General courses 20 units

2. Basic courses of 20 units

3. Main courses 50 units

4. Compulsory specialized courses of 30 units

5. Optional specialized courses of 20 units

A) Exam Materials and Coefficients

Holders of a high school diploma in mathematics and physics can participate in this course.

Exam materials and coefficients are as follows:

1. Mathematics coefficient 4

2. Physics coefficient 2

3. Chemistry coefficient 2

4. English coefficient 2

5. Other coefficient 1 courses

 B) Master's Degree in Navigation

Target:

The Master of Navigation has been designed to prepare students for professional management jobs in maritime organizations and agencies, both governmental and non-governmental, as well as to continue their Ph.D. studies in various branches of maritime science.

Program Plan:

The educational criteria for the master's degree in Navigation are in accordance with the regulations approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

Admission Requirements for The Master of Maritime Course:

- Having at least a bachelor's degree in one of the maritime and/or marine disciplines (Maritime Engineering, Marine Engineering, Ship Engineering, Maritime Management, and Trade and Maritime Commissioner) from educational institutions in the country or other countries approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology

- Passing prerequisite courses (maximum one semester) at the discretion of the relevant educational department

- Not studying in other higher education institutions

- Success in the entrance exam

 Course plan and system form:

The educational criteria for the master's degree course are in accordance with the regulations approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.

Admission requirements for the Master of Maritime course:

- Have at least a bachelor's degree in one of the maritime disciplines (maritime engineering - maritime, marine engineering - ship engineering, maritime management and trade and maritime commissioner) from educational institutions in the country or other countries approved by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology

- Passing prerequisite courses (maximum one semester) at the discretion of the relevant department

- Not studying in other higher education institutions

- Success in the entrance exam
